DALLAS -- Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut are in, Chandler Parsons and Zaza Pachulia are out and Dallas coach Rick Carlisle has a retooled roster for the sixth consecutive time since winning a championship.Well, we love it, Carlisle said at media day this week as someone chuckled. Whats more exciting than getting seven new guys? New blood. Its fresh every year.Really, that wasnt meant to be a joke, he added. If you view it as a negative, theres a pretty good chance its going to be a negative. I dont look at it that way.The Mavericks have made the playoffs all but one season since the constant turnover started after owner Mark Cuban chose salary cap flexibility over keeping a few key players when a new labor agreement was reached six months after his team won the title in 2011.But Dallas still hasnt won a postseason series since beating Miami in six games in those NBA Finals.Repeated efforts to land big names in free agency failed, which this year led to the additions of Barnes and Bogut from 2015 champion Golden State after the Warriors lured Kevin Durant from Oklahoma City and had to unload both starters to make cap room for the four-time NBA scoring champion.Barnes headlines the group of newcomers because hell be a top option on offense after signing a four-year, $94 million max contract. Over his four seasons with the Warriors, he was always a role player behind Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Its going to be bigger expectations and Im going to have a larger role on this team, Barnes said. I feel like we have a lot of pieces this year, either coming back off injury, guys who are motivated, have a lot to prove. So hopefully we can all come together and do something special.Theres actually some stability in the starting five because point guard Deron Williams is back for a second season with his hometown team.Nowitzki, going into his 19th season at age 38, says Williams was the best player on the team at times last season, and the Mavericks missed him in their five-game loss to Oklahoma City. He was limited by a sports hernia injury that required offseason surgery.Parsons signed a max deal with Memphis, and Pachulia went to the Warriors after the trade that landed Dallas the 7-footer Bogut, who should be a much stronger shot-blocking presence than his predecessor. The changes fit the formula of at least two new starters each season going back to the title year. There are similarities to other years, Carlisle said. The ability to add Bogut and Barnes was huge for us. We caught some good luck on that. The other notable newcomer is Currys younger brother, Seth Curry, who is on his fifth team in his fourth season but finally had a more prominent role last season in Sacramento. Former Baylor standout Quincy Acy is in Dallas after bouncing around his first four years. The Mavericks are deep at guard with holders J.J. Barea and Devin Harris behind Williams and Wes Matthews, in his second season as the shooting guard and now more than a year removed from tearing an Achilles tendon his final season in Portland. Also returning are athletic young forwards Justin Anderson and Dwight Powell along with 7-2 Tunisian center Salah Mejri, a surprising shot-blocking presence last season as a 30-year-old rookie.Theyre definitely athletes and we should be able to have a great defensive lineup once Im out, said Nowitzki, poking fun at his defensive skills. I think we have a (backup) lineup out there that could be really, really good, and obviously youth and athleticism is a big part.Barnes wanted to be a part of it even though the Mavericks appear further from championship contention than other Western Conference teams.I think when you look at what this franchise has done year in, year out, stable on their ship, Barnes said. And be able to learn from a guy named Dirk whos done it year in, year out. Hes pretty much built this place through his work ethic. And now Nowitzki is getting used to another new collection of teammates.---Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuylerAir Jordan Outlet Canada . Capitals head coach Adam Oates said Ovechkin was injured in the first period against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday and clarified it was not a head injury. The 33rd running of the Grade 1, $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup presented by Lanes End brings together a superbly talented field of nine 3-year-old fillies at Keeneland, all stakes winners and seven having won Grade 1 or 2 stakes in their careers. In terms of overall accomplishments, Catch a Glimpse gets first mention as she is eight for 10 in her career including a win in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July. Time and Motion turned the tables on Catch a Glimpse when winning the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes in August and the two are set to square off for the third time. Harmonize won the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks when last seen and is another with the credentials to succeed.Stays in Vegas was beaten a head in the Del Mar Oaks and can improve, as can fourth-place Oaks finisher Mokat, who previously won the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes. Hawksmoor and On Leave are two fillies yet to run against the previously mentioned trio. Hawksmoor won the Group 2 German 2000 Guineas in June while On Leave won the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes in her most recent race.Analysis and contenders: Let me start by saying there is no question that Catch a Glimpse, Harmonize, Time and Motion or Mokat can win as all four are graded stakes winners. Most of the four have faced each other multiple times and some have taken turns with each other. On any given day, any of these vastly talented fillies can win, and I will NOT be discounting their chances one bit. However, the new faces intrigue me a lot, and they are very likely to go to post at higher odds than the four previously mentioned fillies, so those are two horses I will be considering for win bets.Hawksmoor makes her North American debut, with a three-for-nine record in Europe. Three races back, in June, in a Group 2 (a very tough level) stakes in Germany, because of the addition of blinkers, she won in a field of 16. Hawksmoor then faced OLDER filliess and mares in the Group 2 Killboy Estate Stakes in Ireland, finishing third.dddddddddddd She was not disgraced a bit when beaten a nose and a half-length for the win. In her most recent race, the Group 1 Matron Stakes in Ireland, Hawksmoor once again faced older opponents, finishing fifth of nine. For her U.S. debut, she adds Lasix and gets a local jockey in Corey Lanerie. If she is able to run back to either of her two efforts prior to the last one, she has every right to win this years Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Invitational. On Leave has slowly worked her way up the class ladder in her six starts to date. She won her first start this year, in June, and is unbeaten in three races since. Her last race was her best effort yet, as she won the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes, at this nine furlong turf trip. Jose Ortiz is the only jockey to ride On Leave to date and knows exactly what to do in order to get her to win. The 110 Equibase Figure she earned winning the Sands Point stacks up just fine when compared to the 112 figure Catch a Glimpse earned winning the Belmont Oaks Invitational and the 111 Harmonize earned winning the Del Mar Oaks. Best of all, On Leave has demonstrated the fastest final quarter-mile time of any horse in this field, running 22.6 when winning in July and 22.5 when victorious in the Riskaverse Stakes in August. Catch a Glimpse may be tough to run down as usual, but On Leave has potential to do just that in this race. The rest of the field, with their best representative Equibase Speed Figures, is Catch a Glimpse (112), Harmonize (111), Stays in Vegas (111), Queen Caroline (101), Mokat (110), Time and Motion (112) and Try Your Luck (102).My top two contenders 1. On Leave 2. HawksmoorFor more stories like this check out Americas Best Racing. ' ' '
