PHILADELPHIA -- David Wright sure likes Philadelphia, even if the city isnt so fond of him. Wright homered, tripled and matched a New York Mets record with four extra-base hits to back Matt Harveys latest splendid start in an 8-0 victory over the Phillies on Sunday. "This guy is tired, beat up, yet he rides it when you need him," Mets manager Terry Collins said. "Ive been around stars, and this guys as good as any of them." Wright, who has spent his entire 10-year career playing for one of Philadelphias biggest rivals, hit his 17th home run at Citizens Bank Park. He went 4 for 5 with two of New Yorks season-high seven doubles, raising his numbers at the Phillies home field to .296 with 43 extra-base hits and 58 RBIs in 80 games. With the Mets making a major marketing push to get Wright elected to start next months All-Star game at Citi Field, the third baseman is batting .405 with 14 extra-base hits in his last 17 games. "It would be a tremendous honour and something I would really like to do," Wright said. "First and foremost, Id like to be there for the All-Star game. But to be able to start it in your home park would be pretty special. I think (thats) an understatement." Given a rare heaping of run support, Harvey (7-1) allowed two hits in six innings and struck out six to earn consecutive wins for the first time since mid-April. The 24-year-old right-hander tossed four perfect innings and threw a season-low 72 pitches -- his outing was cut short by a 20-minute rain delay in the seventh. Collins said there was no argument when he informed Harvey he would not return after the delay, and the manager didnt want to take a chance with his young star. "I said, Nope, its not worth it," Collins explained. "The upside is too high." Harvey also hit an RBI double to deep right-centre and scored in a three-run fifth that made it 4-0. Later, he hit a line drive that knocked reliever Joe Saverys glove off his hand but was thrown out at first. Harvey became the first Mets starter to win twice in one season at Citizens Bank Park, where New York took two of three after winning a five-game series at first-place Atlanta. "He was really good," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He was getting the ball over the plate. He was getting his slider on the outside of the plate against the left-handed hitters and he comes right after you." Wright hit his 12th home run in the ninth and finished a single shy of the cycle. But he wouldnt trade one of those doubles for a single. "I like doubles," Wright said. The club said the previous Mets player to have four extra-base hits in a game was Edgardo Alfonzo on Aug. 30, 1999, at Houston. New leadoff batter Eric Young Jr. had three hits and scored twice. Philadelphias only threat against Harvey came in the fourth, when Chase Utley hit a leadoff double and Ryan Howard worked a one-out walk. But Harvey got out of the jam by striking out Domonic Brown on a 99 mph fastball and retiring Delmon Young on a grounder. New York opened the scoring in the first when Marlon Byrd drove in Young with a sacrifice fly. In the fifth, Harvey helped himself by hitting the first of three RBI doubles for the Mets. Juan Lagares led off the inning with what appeared to be an easy fly to centre, but Ben Revere fumbled the ball in the exchange from his glove to his bare hand and it was ruled it a three-base error, opening the door for New York. The Mets added two more in the sixth. Josh Satin and John Buck drew back-to-back walks before Lagares chased Phillies starter John Lannan (0-2) with an RBI double. Buck scored on Omar Quintanillas sacrifice fly to make it 6-0. Byrd hit an RBI double in the seventh after Wrights triple. Mets relievers LaTroy Hawkins and Brandon Lyon closed it out, handing the Phillies their seventh shutout of the season. Taylor booked his place in the play-offs with a 7-2 win over Robert Thornton Taylor leads the wayThe six-time champion was a shock absentee from the Premier Leagues top four places in the last campaign, missing the cut for the first time in the competitions history.Van Gerwens impressive reign as world No 1 has even raised debate about whether the Dutchman can replace the 16-time world champion as the sports greatest player, but Taylor has proven his point in the Premier League. Taylor had a message for Van Gerwen after their Premier League draw After holding Van Gerwen to a 6-6 draw in week seven, Taylor threw down the gauntlet to his young rival, telling him: Lets see at the end of the Premier League. Both men will renew their rivalry in Rotterdam on the final evening of the regular campaign and Taylor will be determined to strike another psychological blow after proving himself as the stand-out performer in the Premier League so far.MVG at the double Michael van Gerwen claimed a maximum of four points from his two matches A run of four draws in the last five weeks had suggested that Van Gerwen was running out of steam following a red-hot spell which had seen him set the highest average in a televised match.dddddddddddd The world No 1 slipped below his sky-high standards in last nights double-header, offering a few chances to the off-colour Peter Wright in his opening 7-2 win, while he recorded an ordinary average of 96 in a closing 7-5 victory over Adrian Lewis. But like any true champion, Van Gerwen did enough to win both those matches, and the Green Machine is learning how to close out wins when he is not at his dazzling best.Twos company, threes a crowd Gary Anderson is level on points with fourth-placed Adrian Lewis Third-placed Gary Anderson, Lewis, and James Wade are only separated by a point after last nights results created even more tension in the tussle for qualification.Anderson could barely contain his anger after being held to a 6-6 draw by Wade, while Lewis ended without a point from his two games, just seven days after he had thrilled the crowd with a nine-darter.Next weeks schedule in Birmingham could be crucial for defending champion Anderson, who plays twice - against Raymond van Barneveld and Peter Wright. And it would be foolish to write off Van Barneveld, who kept his faint hopes of a top four berth alive with victory over Lewis. All wrong for Wright Peter Wright gradually fallen down the table Snakebite Wright briefly topped the table after a flying start, but his slide out of contention has prompted even more concerns about his changing equipment.Wright has tinkered with his darts since the start of the campaign, striving for that perfect set, and the lacklustre loss to Van Gerwen was further evidence of his failure to find suitable arrows. After another disappointing showing, Wright could learn from the consistent Taylor, who is thought to have stuck with the same set of darts throughout.Ray of hope? Raymond van Barneveld moved within four points of the top four Van Barneveld produced a remarkable run to the play-offs last year, although he would need an even more dramatic sequence of results to earn another semi-final spot at The O2.The Dutch veteran with the Rocky walk-on music only comes out swinging when his back is against the wall and he gleefully struck a blow to rival Lewis. If, and its a big if, Barney can beat Anderson next week then we might yet see another late charge from RVB.
