BOULDER, Colo. -- Linebacker Kenneth Olugbode and several of his Colorado teammates spend quite a bit of time on their headsets, barking out commands and watching each others back.Theyre always in perfect step, too. And thats from separate rooms while jointly playing the video game Call of Duty.Their on-the-field chemistry is even more cohesive as the ninth-ranked Buffaloes (10-2, No. 9 CFP) boast an opportunistic defense thats forced 26 turnovers this season. We communicate well and thats why we play well, said Olugbode, whose team will face No. 4 Washington (11-1, No. 5 CFP) on Friday in the Pac-12 championship game. The proof is certainly in the numbers: The Buffs are allowing 323.8 yards of total offense this season. Thats nearly 100 yards fewer than a year ago. Even more, they allowed 27.5 points last season and just 18.8 in 2016. The players chalk it up to growing even more comfortable in Year 2 of defensive coordinator Jim Leavitts system. We werent getting that many turnovers before. But coach Leavitt has been stressing that since hes gotten here, said safety Tedric Thompson, who had two interceptions when the Buffaloes beat Utah last Saturday to clinch the Pac-12 South. Each and every game we try to go in there and create as many turnovers as we can.Colorado currently has a nation-best streak of forcing at least one turnover in 25 straight contests. The key has been relatively simple.Everyone has to do their 1/11th, defensive back Ryan Moeller explained. Once you start worrying and hoping someone else will be there, then you arent paying attention to your own job. We just had faith in everyone and knew where everyone was going to be. We just had to execute. One of the leaders of this defensive unit is do-everything standout Chidobe Awuzie, who was recently voted the teams co-most valuable player along with senior quarterback Sefo Liufau. Awuzie has played cornerback, safety and nickel back at times in his career, along with a little bit of outside linebacker. No matter where he lines up, hes a handful, which is why he figures to be a high pick in the NFL draft come April.Every game we approach the same way, (with a) 1-0 attitude like its the Super Bowl, Awuzie recently said. The creed has served the Buffaloes well so far. Now, they face a Washington team with an explosive offense directed by quarterback Jake Browning. We always respect our opponents, give each opponent the same respect every game, pass rusher Jimmie Gilbert said. We are going to work hard to stop Washington.Much like Awuzie, Olugbode always winds up in the middle of the action. He had a 10-yard fumble return for a score against Utah that gave Colorado some much-needed breathing room in the fourth quarter. These days, his arms are covered in little nicks where the helmets of tailbacks have caught him. The scar on his right shin is still there -- a reminder of a scary situation.Last season in a game against Oregon, he was hit in the calf while making a tackle. Olugbode played until the third quarter even though his leg began doubling in size due to swelling.A few hours later, he underwent emergency surgery for acute compartment syndrome, a painful condition where blood flow to a muscle is restricted and results in tissue trauma. He missed two games before returning.I didnt know the magnitude of what it was, until I was told I couldve lost the foot, said Olugbode, whos the teams leading tackler. It was just a minor setback for a major comeback.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25David Wright Jersey . Datsyuk will miss Tuesdays game against New Jersey and could be sidelined longer, while Cleary will likely miss at least the next three games. Now tied for second in the league in shootout goals, the 24-year-old likes to see what the opposing goaltender has in store before he ultimately lands on a move. Wilson Ramos Mets Jersey . Now, correct me if Im wrong but I saw one official distinctly pointing at the net indicating a good goal but after an inconclusive review they overturned the goal. Shouldnt the ruling on the ice (good goal) stand after an inconclusive review? Why was this overturned? James Veaudry Pembroke, ON -- Hey Kerry, Youll get a lot of these, but why was the Montreal goal against Nashville Saturday night overturned? Eller puts the puck on net and the on ice ruling from the ref behind the net is a Montreal goal. Steven Matz Mets Jersey . -- On the field, it was business as usual for Jameis Winston and No. Martyn Rooney justified his decision to fight to compete at the European Championships in empathic fashion by retaining his 400 metres title on a night of contrasting fortunes for two of Great Britains rising stars in Amsterdam.Rooney produced a perfectly-timed run, going slowly before producing a blistering third 100m and just leaving enough in the tank to hold on down the home straight and cross the line in 45.29 seconds. His success was followed by a shock silver medal for Jazmin Sawyers in the long jump, but Desiree Henrys 100m hopes were dashed by an injury as she pulled up 40m into the race, hobbled on and then collapsed to the track and had to be taken off on a stretcher.Dominant Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers, the face of the event, delivered the victory the home fans wanted most by storming to the title in 10.90 seconds.Danny Talbot was able to celebrate a belated bronze in the 200m after winner Churandy Martina was disqualified, while Anyika Onuora beat Christine Ohuruogu to bronze in the 400m, taking Britains medal tally to seven, including three golds, on day three of competition. The cool, overcast conditions at the Dutch capitals Olympic Stadium were not conducive to fast times, but Rooneys clocking was enough to beat Czech Pavel Maslak by 0.07 seconds.Rooney said: Just to defend a title is something Ive never done before. Last time I won I was relieved, this time Im elated.I like championships, so when it comes to selection this is where I come to peak and seem to do well in the British vest. Ive backed it up and fortunately a lot of other people have as well.Credit to British Athletics for listening to the athletes and giving people the option to come here and perform. A couple more athletes have come here and theyve picked up medals and there will be more to come. Its great for Britain and for us going to an Olympics with confidence.Sawyers delivered the performance of her life to win long jump silver. The 22-year-old leapt out to 6.86m, albeit backed by a strong following wind, to secure second place behind Serbias Ivana Spanovic, who claimed victory with 6.94m.Britain had high hopes for a long jump medal heading into the championships, but it had been expected to come from one oof either world silver medallist Shara Proctor, who made the late decision to withdraw from the competition, or world indoor bronze medallist Lorraine Ugen, who crashed out in qualifying.ddddddddddddnstead, Sawyers, a singer-songwriter and former Winter Youth Olympics medallist in the bobsleigh, stepped up to the plate. She said: I couldnt be happier with that. Im really proud with that performance. There was agony, though, for 20-year-old Henry, who had qualified second fastest for the 100m final. Lying on the track she was comforted by a classy Schippers before her lap of honour, as well as team-mate Asha Philip, who came home fourth in 11.27 seconds.Philip said: My heart went out to here as soon as I crossed the line and she wasnt there, I turned around and I saw her lying there. I had to run back and look after her. She was in shock. It remains to be seen whether Henrys Olympic hopes are now in doubt. In the womens 400m, Onuora clocked a seasons best 51.47 seconds to edge out Ohuruogu by 0.08. The two-time world champion would now appear to be in real danger of missing out on an individual spot in Rio, with the pair fighting for the final one and the team due to be announced on Wednesday. There was a bronze too for Talbot in the 200m -- not that he realised it at the time -- after Dutchman Martina was disqualified for a lane infringement, having already completed his lap of honour in front of an adoring home crowd. The decision denied Martina the sprint double following his shock 100m triumph on Thursday. Talbot, who had thought he had missed out on a medal by 0.05 after coming home fourth in 20.56, was promoted to third. Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake ended up fifth in 20.60.Elsewhere, Sophie Hitchon finished fourth in the hammer, Rhys Williams fifth in the 400m hurdles as Jack Green crashed out, Dewi Griffiths fifth in the 10,000m, Rob Mullett sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase and Jade Lally seventh in the discus.Morgan Lake withdrew from the heptathlon after three events due to a tight hamstring, ending her hopes of Olympic qualification in the seven-event discipline.
