PORTLAND, Ore. -- Diego Valeri and Fanendo Adi scored second-half goals to give the Portland Timbers a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union on SaturdayThe victory gave Portland (11-11-8) 41 points and moved it ahead of Sporting Kansas City for fifth place in the Western Conference. The loss kept Philadelphia (11-11-8) at 41 points. The Union are fourth in the Eastern Conference.I couldnt be more proud of these guys, Portland coach Caleb Porter said. The nice thing is were starting to get that continuity and that consistency, like we always do. We smell the postseason and you can see it in the performances at home.In the first minute of the half, Portlands Darren Mattocks turned past defender Keegan Rosenberry on the Philadelphia end line, then delivered a driven pass to Valeri a couple yards from goal. From that close, it was a simple task for the forward to redirect the ball past goalkeeper Andre Blake for his 12th goal of the season. You see how hard (Mattocks) works. Three or four times, he was able to press the back line. If you look at the first goal, it all comes from his workrate, Porter said.Less than a minute later, Philadelphia evened the score. Fabian Herbers drove toward the edge of the Portland penalty area, where two defenders forced him into overrunning the ball. Fortunately for the Union, Chris Pontius was following the play and jumped on the stationary ball, slamming a left-footed shot past Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson for his 11th goal.Portland regained the lead in the 53rd minute, with Mattocks again setting things up. After collecting a poor clearance by Rosenberry, Mattocks attempted a 12-yard shot, which deflected off Adi standing on the 6-yard line and into the goal for his 15th goal of the year.Even with two assists, Mattocks admitted he would have really enjoyed scoring. Its special against Andre Blake. We get together with the (Jamaican) National Team. That would have been icing on the cake, said Mattocks.A lot of chances created on the day. We made a couple mistakes. I think they made a couple mistakes. We got punished for ours, Philadelphia coach Jim Curtin said. Adi and Valeri were a handful and they made us pay.Valeri and Adi have scored 27 of Portlands 45 goals this season. The next highest scorer on the team is Jack McInerney with five, the last on July 13.Philadelphia finished the match with 10 players, after defender Joshua Yaro received his second yellow card of the game in the 85th minute.Disappointing that Josh gets sent off. If you watched, the first yellow card is a mistake, Curtin said.Supply Air VaporMax Shop . -- Jimmy Walkers first PGA Tour trophy came with a special gift tucked inside. Black Air VaporMax Shoes . SEATTLE -- Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a tiebreaking homer, Shane Victorino slugged the last of Bostons five long balls and the Red Sox snapped a three-game skid with an 11-8 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night. Boston rallied from an early 5-1 deficit, using two-run homers from Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli along with Bradleys solo shot to come back against the Mariners. Pedroia and Napoli homered in the third inning and Bradley gave Boston the lead in the fifth. Victorinos drive was part of a three-run eighth. Seattle was just as potent early, with Kendrys Morales going deep twice, but couldnt solve the Red Sox bullpen. Alfredo Aceves, Craig Breslow and Andrew Bailey kept Seattle scoreless for 4 2-3 innings after starter Allen Webster was tagged for seven earned runs in 2 1-3 innings. Seattle got a run off Junichi Tazawa in the eighth, but Koji Uehara pitched the ninth for his sixth save. Breslow (3-2) got the victory after throwing 2 1-3 innings. David Ortiz had four hits -- including a solo home run in the second off struggling Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma -- to give him 1,688 hits as a designated hitter, tying Harold Baines for the career record. Ortiz doubled twice and singled in the eighth. Seattle took a 5-1 lead in the second when rookie Brad Miller lined a three-run double into the right-field corner, but the lead was gone by the time the Mariners got back to the plate. Boston sent nine batters to the plate and scored five times in the third, highlighted by two-run homers from Pedroia and Napoli, sandwiched around a doublee from Ortiz that missed clearing the fence by only a couple of feet.dddddddddddd Pedroia added an RBI single in the fourth and Bradley gave the Red Sox the lead in the fifth when he hit a hanging curveball from Blake Beavan (0-2) to right-centre for his second homer. Bradley was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket earlier in the day to help provide depth in the outfield with Jacoby Ellsbury (wrist) and Victorino (hamstring) nursing nagging injuries. Morales two-run shot in the first was thanks to the hustle of Raul Ibanez beating out a potential double play and extending the inning. Morales added a solo homer on the first pitch of the third inning and Seattle got an RBI triple from Michael Saunders, but the Mariners left runners at the corners in the fourth inning and never threatened again until the eighth. Iwakuma lasted just three innings, the shortest start of his career, continuing a recent stretch of rough starts for the first-time All-Star. In his first 14 starts, Iwakuma was 7-1 with a 1.79 ERA, allowing 10 home runs and 22 earned runs. In his last five starts his ERA has ballooned to 6.83. He has given up 10 homers and 22 earned runs during the winless span. NOTES: Boston hit five homers in a game for the second time this season.
