DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Defending Sprint Cup Series champion Kyle Busch was OK after an apparent cut tire resulted in a hard crash Friday during practice at Daytona International Speedway. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was running in a small pack of cars practicing for the Coke Zero 400 when the right rear tire blew near the exit of Turn 2. The car fishtailed before turning hard right and making near 90-degree contact with the outside SAFER Barrier.Busch walked out of his car and was evaluated and released from the infield care center. He said the tire blew after just four laps on the track, and Goodyear reported that the tire had a gash in it, meaning Busch likely ran over something on the track. He will have to go to a backup car for the race Saturday. He will be able to start where he qualifies Friday afternoon because he will use that backup car for qualifying today. It was a huge impact, Busch said. I thank NASCAR for all their advancements in the safety aspects of the car in the things that drivers wear and the SAFER Barriers as well today. That could have been a heck of a lot uglier than what it was.Im pretty confident in Joe Gibbs Racing and their ability to build good race cars. Im not very confident in Goodyear in giving us good tires to go out there and race on.Busch was right to have confidence in the JGR cars. He posted the third-best speed in the final round of qualifying in his backup car for a solid starting spot Saturday. He also said his rant on Goodyear was more about issues he has had this season than just Friday morning.Weve had a lot of tire issues this year -- that [was] probably four, five or six tires that weve blown this year, he said. Thats what is the most frustrating part of it is.We also did the tire test at Kentucky [last month] and didnt necessarily have the best results. Goodyear probably didnt deserve what they got from me earlier today, but thats just from earlier today. At least a frustrating day ended well.I felt pretty good with what we had right there [in qualifying], Busch said. I feel like weve got a good base. As far as what kind of pack car or drafting-type car, it will take a little bit to kind of figure that out. But the balance was fine and the drivability was fine. Brisbane coach Justin Leppitsch says hes unsure if the events of the last Q-Clash will take their AFL rivalry with Gold Coast to the next level. The Suns host the Lions on Saturday afternoon at Metricon Stadium, the first meeting between the two sides since Steven May earned a five-week suspension for infamously shirtfronting Brisbane ruckman Stefan Martin back in round four.Tensions have simmered in Queensland but whether things will boil over come the first bounce remains to be seen.I guess well find out, wont we, whether its going to linger on into this time. I dont sense that from the playing group, but you know what its like when theyre out on the footy ground - anything can happen, Leppitsch told reporters on Friday. We might get ourselves up a little bit more for this particular game, I dont know. Its always a spiteful game whenever we play Gold Coast, we know that, being the local rivalry. But more than anything, winning is the most important thing for us at this point in time. Both sides have struggled since the last Q-Clash - it was Brisbanes last win, annd defeat sent Gold Coast on a long losing streak that only ended last weekend with a breakthrough win over St Kilda.dddddddddddd.The Suns have made one change with Jarrod Garlett replacing the injured Matt Rosa (hamstring), while for the Lions, Dayne Zorko returns after missing last week for Josh Walker, and debutant Reuben William comes in for Ben Keays.William, 18, is the latest talent to roll off the Lions academy production line.Born in South Sudan, he moved to Brisbane with his family at the age of five following the death of his father during the civil war.An exciting and aggressive rebounding defender, it is a happy coincidence he will play his first match during multicultural round and his phone has been ringing off the hook with well-wishes from other AFL players of non-Australian extraction.I know Ive got 21 of my teammates out there to guide me, I know I wont be as nervous as I am now when I get out there, William said.
