It was a night to remember for Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Trevor Williams. One day after being called up to the majors, Williams made his big league debut and got the win in relief as the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-3 to end an eight-game losing streak. And Williams was able to share that special moment with a number of family members in the crowd at PNC Park. Right after the game, he kissed his wife and young child, then gave the game ball to his father, who he said has been battling lymphoma. It was an incredible moment for me and my family, Williams said. Hes an emotional guy. He wears his heart on his sleeve. As soon as we embraced all the emotions came out.Hes been battling lymphoma all year. He had rigorous chemo and radiation. Right now were awaiting results to see if hes in remission or not.Time will tell whether Williams will go on to have a long major league career. But at the very least, hes made his first appearance in the big leagues a memorable one.
