Mo Farah has promised to compete at this year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, despite the threat of the Zika virus. The double London 2012 champion is already targeting further success in Brazil this summer but the build-up to the event has been overshadowed by the emergence of the Zika outbreak, which can cause birth abnormalities. But Farah still holds fond memories of his 10,000m win four years ago when wife Tania and step-daughter Rihanna joined him on the track to celebrate in front of a delighted home crowd and he is desperate to try and recreate that moment in Rio. For me, the Olympics is where it is at. I want to have that moment for my family no matter what, he said ahead of the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix on Saturday.Im quite excited. In London one of the best things ever was having my family on the track. Seeing my wife and daughter there was incredible. I believe they are part of me and will be there again.Im not even thinking about anything like [the Zika virus]. I want them there and thats it.Farahs chance of picking up further gold medals in Rio could be boosted if Kenya is banned from competing at the Games. Mo Farah The countrys athletics federation has been declared non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code and IAAF president Lord Coe says he is ready to prevent them taking part.Farah - who has been forced to deny links to drugs in the past year following allegations that his coach Alberto Salazar was behind a secret doping programme in the United States - admits he will have a better chance of securing medals in Brazil if Kenya are not involved.A ban for Kenya would mean Farahs rivals Geoffrey Kamworor, Paul Kipngetich Tanui and Bitan Karoki would not be able to race against him but the 32-year-old admits their absence would devalue the middle-distance events in Rio.If you dont have Kenya there it makes things easier for me, which is great, he added. Geoffrey Kamworor will not compete at the Rio Olympics if Kenya are banned from the Games But at the same time, you dont want to wish anything like that on anybody who hasnt done anything wrong but as a country they have to follow the rules. If they cant, then tough on them.Farah will compete in the 3,000 metres at Glasgows Emirates Arena this weekend and with just seven months to go until the Olympics, he hopes to use the race as a platform for further success in the summer. It is every athletes dream to go to an Olympics and do well. Obviously 2012 was a big, big year, he said.It changed my career after I managed to come away with two gold medals in my home town in front of 80,000 people.Thats what keeps me going every day. It is co-owned and operated by MGM Resorts International, which runs one of Nevadas largest sportsbooks. This weekend, the number of bets on Kentucky-North Carolina was comparable to or greater than the number of bets on any of Sundays NFL games, according to MGM vice president of race and sports Jay Rood. MGM operates the sportsbooks at 10 locations in Las Vegas. It was just a ton of action, a ton of tickets, Rood said. The action was almost all small $10 and $20 bets, but there were a lot of individual tickets written on Kentucky-North Carolina. Rood has seen similar increases in betting action on the Pac-12 tournament, which was has been played at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas since 2013. The tournament moves to T-Mobile Arena in 2017.The Pac-12 tournament, when it was in Anaheim, it was a nonevent [for the sportsbook], Rood said. The NHL has since placed a franchise in Las Vegas. The Vegas Golden Knights will call T-Mobile Arena home beginning in 2017.Working in a sportsbook, Salmons is used to hearing bettors cheer for random events not always directly associated with the outcome of the game, but he didnt hear much of it Saturday.I mean, people betting serious money on the game, where they care that much more about the spread than the game, youre probably talking less than 1 percent of the people who attend, Salmons said. It doesnt matter. Its immaterial.Salmons did come away impressed by UCLA. Last April, he opened the Bruins as 80-1 long shots to win the national championship at the SuperBook. The SuperBook took a $600 bet on the Bruins when they were 80-1.Salmons now has UCLA listed at 7-1. ' ' '
