AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Josh Smith saved his only 3-pointers for when the Detroit Pistons needed them most. His first started a 12-0 run midway through the fourth quarter that gave the Pistons the lead for good and the next gave Detroit breathing room in its 116-111 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night. Greg Monroe matched his season-best with 28 points and had 14 rebounds to help Detroit end a three-game skid in a matchup of the NBA Central Divisions worst two teams. Smith scored eight of his 26 during the decisive run. "It kind of was a relief," Smith said of his first 3-pointer, which got the Pistons within 98-95 with 5:2 left in the game. "I knew if I just stepped into it and shot it with confidence we could make a push." He had a 3-point play later in the run and added his second 3-pointer and a subsequent dunk with a minute to play to put the game away. Smith finished the fourth with 15 points and was 11 for 19 from the floor overall. "It seemed like every shot he made in the fourth quarter was a big shot," Monroe said. "We obviously needed him to kind of pull away." Brandon Knight had 25 points and Ramon Sessions added 20 and 11 assists for Milwaukee, which lost its 10th consecutive road game and dropped the season series with the Pistons 3-1. The Bucks outscored the Pistons 13-6 in the final four minutes of the first half and took a 61-52 lead to intermission. Detroit trailed by as many as 11 points early in the third but took the lead with a 12-0 run before heading into the final period trailing 82-81. Andre Drummond had 10 points and 16 boards and Brandon Jennings added 20 points and 13 assists for Detroit, which won despite going to the line 21 times to Milwaukees 36. "We just stopped doing the things that we did for three-and-a-half quarters," Milwaukee coach Larry Drew said. "We took some tough shots. We rushed a lot of quick shots around the basket and missed a lot of easy ones." Drew was content with his teams job on Smith, who entered the game making 42 per cent of his field-goal tries. "I thought we did a good job from a game strategy standpoint," Drew said. "We did what we were supposed to do. He just started making shots." The Bucks got 12 points, 13 rebounds and a career-best three blocks from centre Zaza Pachulia. They went almost five minutes without a field goal late in the fourth quarter while Detroit made the decisive run. Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo each added 14 points. Pistons coach John Loyer was whistled for a technical foul midway through the third quarter. Two nights earlier he was ejected from the Pistons 123-98 loss at Philadelphia. LOUIS -- Joe Thornton and the San Jose Sharks won the matchup of unbeaten teams.Burnley defender Michael Keane deserves his first England call-up and will only develop further within an international setting, according to former Three Lions captain Terry Butcher. The 23-year-old was drafted into Gareth Southgates 23-man squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia after Stoke defender Glen Johnson was forced to withdraw because of injury. Keane, who made 16 appearances under Southgate for England U21s, has been a standout performer for newly promoted Burnley this season and Butcher is convinced the former Manchester United academy graduate will only grow into a better player from the experience. Its good and he deserves it, Butcher told Sky Sports Now. Its interesting because if you look at the stats, he has only made five tackles this season and he has won all of them. But it does show you the state of the game, its more balletic, playing balls in front of you and not necessarily going to ground.Hes done very well, hes a big boy, a handful and coming into the England squad will only help him as its another step up. Theres great company, great coaching and great media spotlight, its what you want. Keane has been an ever-present for Burnley so far this season, scoring in the 2-0 win over Watford Theres some experienced England players ahead of him in that squad, theres no doubt about that. When I came into the squad, you look around and think I am just happy to be here. I am sure hell just be glad to get on the training field and get around the players in the hotel. It will add to his experience and then it makes you more determined to get into the starting XI when it comes around. Watch NOW TV Watch Sky Sports for just £6.99. No contract. But Ill be very surprised if Gareth does call him up to play as hes got a settled back four and goalkeeper already there, its what happens in front of that back four that really matters.Southgate, who was appointed as Englands interim manager last week following the departure of Sam Allardyce, will take charge of his first training session on Tuesday ahead of Saturdays match against Malta at Wembley.dddddddddddd. England then face Slovenia on Tuesday in Ljubljana, with Southgate also taking charge of the World Cup qualifier against Scotland on November 11 and the friendly with Spain on November 15. Keane replaces Stoke defender Glen Johnson in Englands 23-man squad With a busy schedule ahead for England, Butcher believes Southgate is facing a tough task, citing the players attitude and the Wayne Rooney conundrum as possible issues for him. Well, hes got four games, which is good and they are qualifiers where he has to get points and win matches, Butcher added. I was confident a few months ago that England would get points from these matches, but I am not so sure now, it really depends on the attitude of the players. Gareth Southgate will take charge of England for the next four matches, starting against Malta on Saturday I saw England play in Slovakia and theyve got the Wayne Rooney conundrum. I am sure Gareth would like to come in to a more settled situation, but as a caretaker manager its never a settled situation as something has normally happened, which it has. Hes got good experience behind him and hell know what to do. Its all down to how the players will react. Malta is a given, thats a comfortable three points, but Slovenia away thats a different kettle of fish. You can watch Englands tour of Bangladesh, plus Premier League football and the Japan Grand Prix on Sky Sports.
