Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - The remaining 32 college football bowl matchups were set on Sunday following the announcement of the New Years Six participants. Despite the plethora of postseason games, six bowl-eligible programs were not given a bid, the most notable of which was UAB. UAB was eligible for a bowl for the first time since 2004 and was hoping to play one more time before its football program disbanded. But the Blazers, along with Ohio, Temple, Texas State, Middle Tennessee State and Old Dominion, were not among the 64 teams that accepted bids Sunday. Bowl season kicks off with five games on Dec. 20. Nevada and Louisiana- Lafayette get things started in the New Orleans Bowl, Utah State and UTEP will meet in the New Mexico Bowl, while Utah matches up with Colorado State in the Las Vegas Bowl. The Idaho Potato Bowl features Western Michigan going up against Air Force, and the opening nightcap pits South Alabama against Bowling Green. BYU and Memphis will oppose one another in the Miami Beach Bowl on Dec. 22, and two games the next night has Marshall and Northern Illinois battling in the Boca Raton Bowl, and San Diego State essentially hosting Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl. Two games will be played on Christmas Eve in tropical locations, as Central Michigan and Western Kentucky take part in the inaugural Bahamas Bowl, while Fresno State and Rice travel west for the Hawaii Bowl. Illinois snuck into the Heart of Dallas Bowl and will play Louisiana Tech. Also playing on Dec. 26 are Rutgers-North Carolina and NC State-UCF in the Quick Lane Bowl and St. Petersburg Bowl, respectively. The next day features five games, including Cincinnati and Virginia Tech in the Military Bowl, Arizona State and Duke in the Sun Bowl and Miami and South Carolina in the Independence Bowl. Boston College and Penn State visit Yankee Stadium in a Pinstripe Bowl matchup, while a pair of storied programs -- Nebraska and USC -- duel in the Holiday Bowl. Texas A&M will be opposite West Virginia in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 29, a day that will also have Oklahoma taking on Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl, and Arkansas and Texas heading to Houston for the Texas Bowl. A Music City Bowl featuring Notre Dame and LSU highlights a three-game slate on Dec. 30. Georgia and Louisville will play in the Belk Bowl, while Maryland and Stanford meet in the Foster Farms Bowl. Two non-New Years Six games take place on Jan. 1, as Auburn and Wisconsin comprise the Outback Bowl, and Missouri and Minnesota clash in the Citrus Bowl. The games still continue after New Years Day. Houston and Pittsburgh will compete in the Armed Forces Bowl, Iowa and Tennessee play in the TaxSlayer Bowl, Kansas State and UCLA fight for Alamo Bowl bragging rights, and Washington and Oklahoma State quarrel in the Cactus Bowl -- all on Jan. 2. The Birmingham Bowl pits East Carolina against Florida on Jan. 3, and the next night features the penultimate bowl contest between Toledo and Arkansas State in the GoDaddy Bowl.
