Ronda Rousey will end a 412-day layoff when she makes her long-awaited return to the Octagon on Dec. 30 against womens bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 207.Coming back on her own terms, the 29-year-old Rousey will compete for the title she relinquished in such demoralizing fashion last November against Holly Holm in Australia, which kick-started a wild eight-month span that saw the UFCs 135-pound title change hands three times. But lets be careful not to bury the lead here. Even more important than the pre-fight themes surrounding whether Rousey (12-1) will ever be the same is the fact that she has done herself no favors in the matchmaking department.Stylistically speaking, Nunes (13-4) is about as dangerous an opponent as Rousey could test herself against because of one unavoidable truth: The Brazilians greatest strength is Rouseys most glaring weakness. Its not that Nunes, who upset Miesha Tate at UFC 200 in July to win the title via first-round submission, is without flaws. In fact, which has become an asterisk when handicapping Nunes biggest fights, the longer the bout goes, the more it favors her opponents. But stamina issues aside, Nunes is the most dangerous female fighter in the UFC during the first five minutes of a fight not named Cris Justino (which is the reason a Rousey-Justino fight has become the holy grail of UFC superfights that have yet to come to fruition).Nunes-Rousey may not offer the exact same level of fanfare as that bout, but it offers Rousey a similar level of danger due to Nunes quick hands and powerful strikes. And for as dominant as Rouseys incredible run has been -- with six UFC title defenses, including four straight within the first 66 seconds -- critics waited anxiously for her first true test against a dominant striker. Some believed it would come from Cat Zingano at UFC 184, until her mistake of recklessly rushing in prevented us from finding out as Rousey submitted her in 14 seconds. Rouseys toughest test ultimately came from Holm, a decorated boxing champion, who used her flawless footwork to execute a game plan of circling away and catching Rousey coming in with stiff left hands.Nunes is a much different striker than Holm, a traditional counterpuncher, in that she lacks the same technique and patience. But shes much more powerful (able to end a fight with fewer strikes) and has developed accuracy with her looping right hand. For as much as the narrative could be spun to say that Nunes raw aggression and balance issues would play perfectly into Rouseys hands once the former champion is able to close distance and establish the clinch, the same could be said on the flipside. As she proved against Holm, Rousey doesnt know any style but full-speed ahead, which leaves her incredibly vulnerable to big right hands in the opening minute. And getting to Rousey early with big punches has long been the hopeful blueprint of what it will take to defeat her, largely because of how poor her striking defense has been. While the knocks against the stamina and defense of Nunes are legitimate, shes also much bigger than Rouseys previous opponents not named Holm, which could negate the strength advantage Rousey is typically afforded (which helped Holm fight off early takedown and submission attempts). In addition, Nunes has a brown belt in judo and a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.Thats not to say that Nunes is unbeatable, with her weaknesses having been showcased in both a third-round TKO loss to Zingano in 2014 and a decision win over Valentina Shevchenko (who went on to defeat Holm) in March, in which she badly faded late. And as is the case in all Rousey fights, as soon as this one hits the ground for any prolonged length of time, the less likely Nunes is of avoiding Rouseys vaunted armbar. But this fight isnt ultimately about what happens in the later rounds or the intricacies of grappling and submission defense. Those are the elements that might ultimately decide the bout, but thats not what will draw the mainstream interest and pay-per-view buys. The intrigue of Rouseys return boils down to the first 60 to 180 seconds of the fight, where any traces of cage rust or a damaged aura of invincibility will be put to the test head on by Nunes powerful right hands. This is what makes the UFC so successful and exciting, that very few fighters are provided a soft touch at any given time. But as UFC president Dana White indicated during his media tour Wednesday to announce the fight, going directly after the title was Rouseys decision.Considering her value to the brand, its conceivable that Rousey could have taken a much softer touch upon her return, to build up her confidence against a fighter not as skilled (like Nunes) in the areas where she remains vulnerable. It also could have been easier for Rousey to have planned her return months earlier when the title was around the waist of Tate, whom she defeated in dominant fashion twice before. But credit Rousey for her fearlessness in attempting to reclaim more than just the title belt that her star power and undeniable charisma helped bring into existence almost four years ago (at a time when White proclaimed women would never compete in the UFC).At UFC 207, Rousey will very much be fighting to repair a portion of her legacy that was left behind in Australia last November. And as far as style clashes go, this wont be an easy task.Nike Air Max 180 Nederland . Guns N Roses was here in July. Kenny Chesney performed on the Patriots field in August, and Bruce Springsteen sang in September.Everyone from Lionel Messi to Jacoby Brissett played at the home of the four-time Super Bowl champions over the past nine months.Everyone, that is, except Tom Brady.Taking the Foxborough field for the first time since last seasons playoffs and a full 21 months after he was sucked into the scandal known as Deflategate, Brady returned home to lead New England to a 35-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday .Once I got out there running around, it felt like football, said Brady, who completed 29 of 35 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. Youre not going to win because youre emotional. But I think having your attitude right ... that allows you to be at your best for your teammates. And Bradys teammates were at their best for him.Rob Gronkowski caught seven passes for a career-high 162 yards, and James White had two touchdown receptions for New England. Linebacker Donta Hightower had a safety and was also involved in a fourth-and-1 stop to turn the Bengals away at the goal line. The Patriots (5-1) became the second team in the NFL to win its fifth game and remained a game ahead of Buffalo in the AFC East.Receiver Julian Edelman, who served as emergency quarterback during Bradys suspension, could barely contain his emotion before the game, when he slapped the quarterbacks hand and then sprinted out of the tunnel and the length of the field. It was good to get him home, Edelman said. It was an electric environment out there with Tom back.It had been a while for Brady, who last played in Foxborough in a divisional playoff victory over Kansas City on Jan. 16. The Patriots went on to lose to Denver in the AFC title game, and then Brady lost his lengthy court battle to have his Deflategate suspension overturned .The four-time Super Bowl champion missed both home exhibition games before serving his four-game ban in the regular season. The Patriots went 3-1 under backup Jimmy Garoppolo and, after he was injured, Brissett.Brady returned last week against the Browns, a 33-16 win in which Brady threw for 406 yards and three touchdowns. But that was in Cleveland. This was the game Patriiots fans had been waiting nine months for.ddddddddddddThose who where already in their seats erupted in a cheer when Bradys face was shown on the scoreboard in a pregame highlight video. Then again when he came out for warmups an hour before the kickoff. By the time Brady jogged out of the tunnel for the national anthem, the stadium was full, and deafening.Waving signs praising their quarterback -- and railing against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell -- the sold-out crowd of 66,829 chanted Bradys name a handful of times during the game . (They even did it once with the Patriots on offense; Brady flapped his arms to quiet them down.)As you see, he is their football team, Bengals defensive lineman Carlos Dunlap said. Hes the heart of the city; hes the heart of the football team. And thats not because of his looks or his supermodel wife -- or even because of the four NFL championship banners he has already helped hang in the stadium. Its because, as long as hes at quarterback they have a chance at another. After a pedestrian (for him) first half, completing 12 of 16 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown, Brady methodically picked apart the Bengals (2-4) in the second on three quick TD drives:-Five plays, 68 yards, 2 minutes, 5 seconds.-Four plays, 53 yards, 1:35.-Nine plays, 50 yards, 2:35.And what had been a 14-12 Cincinnati lead became a 35-17 victory.Brady denied that it took him time to get his emotions under control. After all, he has played in six Super Bowls and plenty of more important games than this one.I think I know how to get to that place where I need to be, he said. You only have so much energy, and at some point youve got to cut it loose when the moment is right. Its certainly an emotional environment for football. There were a lot of people there when we ran out, and they were there all game, so it was great. And it was great to win. Thats what we want to do. Our job is to come out here and to be focused on what we need to do and then make a bunch of good plays and then try to beat the opponent, and we figured out a way to do that.(Corrects to one-game lead in division)---Online: http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
