CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is satisfied he made his point to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about not being treated fairly in the pocket. It was a great discussion, great talk, Newton said Wednesday, a day after he talked to Goodell by phone. I got my point across. He got his point across. Thats it.Newton complained after Sundays 30-20 victory over Arizona that he wasnt getting the same treatment as other quarterbacks regarding late hits in the pocket. The NFL MVP said the breaking point was a non-call on a hit below the knees in the third quarter that the league has since admitted should have been a penalty, sources told ESPNs Ed Werder.Newton said after the game that he felt unsafe in the pocket and wanted to speak with Goodell. That happened Tuesday.Illegal hits for me start in the pocket, Newton said. I know when I am running the football, I am on my own. I understand that. Im not a dummy or oblivious to the fact that I run the football more than any quarterback who has ever played this game. I mean, duh. Im fine with that.In the pocket, thats all Im asking for. Just to get certain things, the standard of every person getting the same calls, thats all.The opposition has not been penalized for roughing the passer against Newton since the 2014 season, even though Newton has been hit 59 times inside the pocket -- the ninth-highest total in the league. One was called in the season opener against Denver but negated by an intentional grounding penalty.During that same time, other high-profile quarterbacks -- New Orleans Drew Brees?(10), Tom Brady?(five),?Aaron Rodgers?(four) and?Russell Wilson?(three) -- have drawn multiple roughing-the-passer penalties. That was one of Newtons points to Goodell. Said Newton on whether things will change: Well wait to see Sunday and moving forward.Panthers coach Ron Rivera, who spoke to Goodell on Monday, echoed that only time will tell whether officials do more to protect his franchise quarterback. The nice part was the commissioner was a willing listener, Rivera said. It was great. The nice thing is we had an opportunity that needed to be said.At the end of the day, its not about special treatment. Its about being treated the same.Newton said his focus now is helping the Panthers (2-5) prepare for Sundays game at Los Angeles.Im not talking about Roger Goodell no more, he said. I understand that was probably a lot of attention in the media this past couple of days. As far as right now, Im in straight preparation for the Los Angeles Rams. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. Weve been hearing the rumors circulate for more than?a year now that there will be a sequel to the box office hit movie Space Jam. While some are eager to watch a remake of the 1996 animated comedy that?starred Michael Jordan, there are also some who feel it would be an insult to the original.Toronto Raptors forward Patrick Patterson falls in the latter category. He?took to The Players Tribune to voice his opposition to a potential Space Jam 2.Im going to touch on something pretty controversial here, something that means a whole lot to millions of people. But I cant be silent any longer. Please, please, Hollywood, Im pleading with you, do not make Space Jam 2.Patterson believes it would take too much to re-create the cinematic experience.Im a huge movie fan. Movies are a big part of my life. This summer I even had the opportunity to help cover the Toronto International Film Festival for the CBC. So please know that I dont say this lightly: The original Space Jam is the perfect movie. The. Perfect. Movie. He goes on to say Bugs Bunny and the Looney Tunes characters arent as popular anymore. For the kids saake, characters like SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick would have to fill that void.dddddddddddd Patterson also doesnt think the cast would be as entertaining. As we know, LeBron James has been mentioned to play the Jordan role. But Patterson doesnt believe someone like Bill Murray, who displayed some impressive basketball skills during the movie, can be replaced. He has a point. No one wants to see the sequel to such a classic?fail to live up to the hype.?But if the movie finally hits theaters, even Patterson knows hed probably be in attendance.Look, I get why they want to make a sequel. The money will be insane. I mean, Im straight up saying I dont want Space Jam 2 to get made, but I know that Ill see it regardless. Thats how loyal the Space Jam fan base is, Patterson said. The original?is set to make an appearance in select theaters for its 20th anniversary on Nov.?13 and 16. And that could be as close as we get to seeing Space Jam hit the big?screen again.-- Josiah Turner ' ' '
