FRISCO, Texas -- The questions came at Dak Prescott almost as fast as the numerous Philadelphia pass rushers that made the Dallas quarterback look more like a rookie than any opponent so far.How could he not have heard that owner and general manager Jerry Jones said the Cowboys should ride with Prescotts six-game winning streak, and that Tony Romo was fine with it? What did he mean he stayed off Twitter all day? How busy could he be on the players day off?Does he believe in the hot hand theory?Yeah, sure. I mean its not anything I really think of, Prescott said after silently smiling at the suggestion that his boss was such a believer. You say I had a hot hand but I definitely wasnt hot early in that last game. Ive just got to come in and just worry about getting better.Theres no indication Romo, the 10-year starter, is replacing Prescott anytime soon as he continues his recovery from a broken bone in his back. And certainly not Sunday when the Cowboys (6-1) visit Cleveland (0-8).The public glimpses of Romos daily regimen vary. One day, the 36-year-old is going hard on individual drills in practice, taking snaps, rolling out, throwing with some zip even though he isnt listed as an official participant. The next, he does enough in practice to be listed for the first time since getting hurt in a preseason game at Seattle. And then there was Wednesday. Romo wasnt on the field making throws like he had been a week earlier. He was doing conditioning work on resistance cords with one of the athletic trainers after practice. He had the DNP designation again, just as he did Friday. The way we manage this situation, every situation, is to focus on Wednesday, coach Jason Garrett said. Thats what were trying to do. Thats what Dak is trying to do, thats what everybody on our offense and throughout our team is trying to do. Tony is trying to do that as well.A few weeks after saying Romo was the No. 1 quarterback, Jones finally acknowledged on his radio show Tuesday that a change during a winning streak was risky at best. You want to be very mindful of what youve got going, which right now weve got a lot of chemistry going, Jones said. That has got to really be recognized if youre making a decision. And that leads to the obvious question of how Romo might be taking it.Tony has no issue with doing whats best for the team, absolutely no issue doing whats best for the team, Jones said. When youve got it going, we know these things can be a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everybody involved. We look at it that way.Romo briefly appeared in the locker room Wednesday, but didnt talk to reporters. Hes been a steady presence on the sideline with a headset all season, and Prescott said theres been no change in their interaction as the winning streak has grown. And while Prescott sticks with his mantra that its Tonys team, hes had enough success to earn a qualifier. Even after three quarters against the Eagles that were probably his worst as a pro, Prescott has a 99.6 passer rating with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. The 23-year-old led a 90-yard drive to a tying score in the fourth quarter. He never let Philadelphia and fellow standout rookie Carson Wentz get the ball in overtime, leading a 75-yard march to the 29-23 win .Really, its hard for me to say its Tonys team, its my team or anybodys team, Prescott said. Its a true team and everybody is playing their part in it.Prescott said footwork was his biggest problem against the Eagles, caused in part by heavy pressure from an aggressive defense. He bounced several throws, threw an end-zone interception that ended up putting Dallas behind at halftime, and had another near-pick that probably would have cost the Cowboys the game. But the bottom line isnt changing. And if it were, Prescott wouldnt spend any more time wondering when the Cowboys were going back to their franchise guy.It never goes through my head that Ive got to do this or that this is going to happen, Prescott said. I think they will make that decision regardless of how my play is if they want to make that. I just go in and worry about these teammates. And if he needs updates, he could always start looking at Twitter again.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: http://twitter.com/AP-NFL---Follow Schuyler Dixon on Twitter at https://twitter.com/apschuylerCollin McHugh Jersey . ALBANY, N.Y. -- Professional mixed martial arts are off to a rollicking start in New York state, two months after lawmakers ended its status as the only state to ban the popular sport. While there have been a handful of bouts in the state since the change took effect, an upcoming UFC event at Madison Square Garden is expected to be the true coming-out party. Promoters say its likely just the start of a long relationship between New York City and mixed martial arts.It should have been legal in New York 15 years ago, said Scott Coker, president of promoter Bellator MMA, which is hoping to hold an event next year at the Garden or at Barclays Center. Were going to bring a big, big show, probably the biggest card in the history of Bellator. The homecoming is particularly sweet for fighters from New York state who have had to travel elsewhere to fight professionally. This is a dream come true, middleweight Chris Weidman said in September. A native New Yorker, he who will be one of several fighters in Saturdays pay-per-view UFC event. With its prominent place in boxing history, Madison Square Garden is a natural for mixed martial arts. Joel Fisher, an executive vice president at the Garden, said its only fitting that the first UFC fight in New York state is taking place at `The Worlds Most Famous Arena, one of its nicknamesState lawmakers and Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo agreed in April to end the two-decade old ban following years of failed efforts by MMA supporters. The law authorizing the sport took effect in September. Cuomo cconcluded the move would boost the economy by luring bouts to the nations largest city as well as upstate venues, with one estimate that MMA could generate $137 million in annual economic activity.ddddddddddddIn response to critics concerned about the sports violence, lawmakers added provisions that raise the insurance required to $50,000 for fighter injuries, a $50,000 death benefit and $1 million for life-threatening brain injuries. The law was also intended to regulate existing amateur mixed martial arts events. KTFO Fights, a Long Island-based promoter, held the first MMA event under the new law, according to KTFO President Nic Canobbio. He said that while UFC and other big promoters might be able to absorb the higher insurance requirements, many smaller promoters cannot. Its a huge expense for promoters like us, and that prevents guys just starting their career from being able to fight in New York, he said. He would like lawmakers to consider tweaking the law to reduce costs on smaller operators.Still, he said, ending the states long ban on professional MMA has been a great win for the sport.New York has some of the best fighters, the best gyms in the country or maybe even the world, he said. These guys who had to go to Jersey or Pennsylvania to fight they can now fight in their backyard.---This story has been corrected to show the last name of the KTFO president is Canobbio, not Cannobio.
