Super middleweight contender Martin Murray is on his third opponent for his fight Saturday at the Salle des Etoiles in Monte Carlo.Murray will face Nuhu Lawal in a 12-round bout that will take place on the undercard of heavyweight contender Luis King Kong Ortizs fight with Malik Scott, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn announced Thursday.Englands Murray (33-4-1, 16 KOs) was initially scheduled to face former super middleweight world titleholder Arthur Abraham, of Germany, in a rematch of Abrahams split-decision win in their 2015 world title fight. However, Abraham suffered an elbow injury and withdrew.After Abraham dropped out, Murray was matched Russias Dmitrii Chudinov, a former interim middleweight titleholder from Russia. However, Chudinov was ruled out this week because of a virus.So now its down to the 34-year-old Lawal (23-0, 13 KOs), a native of Nigeria fighting out of Germany who is coming off a sixth-round knockout of Istvan Szili on July 2 in a regional title bout.Murray, 34, a four-time world title challenger, is looking to rebound from a decision loss to countryman George Groves on June 25.Four weeks before I boxed George, I was flying in the gym, Murray said. If Id fought him then, the outcome would have been completely different. I peaked, and then I got ill. I took a couple of courses of antibiotics leading into the fight, so when I fought there was nothing in me.Id been training for the whole year basically, so that with the illness took a lot out of me. I didnt do anything in the first half of the fight, but I still nearly pulled it out of the bag at the end. I wasnt expecting to lose, so when I did, it took a lot out of me. Ive had a few good holidays since then and took some time out of the gym as I knew that this date was coming. The loss to George did take a lot out of me, though. When I lost to George, the goal of becoming world champion slipped away a bit, but the desire and hunger is still there and I know I am only one win away from getting another shot.Murray believes a win Saturday will put him back on course for yet another title shot. He is 0-1 in super middleweight world title fights and 0-2-1 in middleweight title fights, having lost to Gennady Golovkin and Sergio Martinez and fighting to a draw with Felix Sturm.I need a win that puts me right back into the mix to fight for a word title, and hopefully this fight will be that win, Murray said. I would move down to middleweight if I could get the right fights, but I just cant seem to get them and there are fights coming at super middleweight. I am far from done as a fighter.
