BATON ROUGE, La. --?LSU?star running back Leonard Fournette echoed the sentiments of many of his teammates upon learning about the firing of 12th-year head coach Les Miles. At the end of the day, I love him. I just hope the best for him, the Heisman Trophy contender told reporters Sunday following a team meeting.?Fournette, who missed the first 20 minutes of the impromptu meeting because of a doctors appointment, said he spoke privately with Miles afterward.?Im going to keep that between us, Fournette said in reference to the conversation.Miles, one of the most successful coaches in SEC history, was fired as head coach of the Tigers after a disappointing 2-2 start. Offensive coordinator Cam Cameron and assistant director of football operations Dean Dingman were also let go.Defensive line coach Ed Orgeron, who went 6-2 after taking over for Lane Kiffin as USCs interim coach in 2013, will replace Miles as interim coach, and tight ends coach Steve Ensminger will serve as the new offensive coordinator.Miles and Orgeron both addressed the team at the meeting. That man (Miles) is so passionate about LSU, safety Jamal Adams said. Hes been here for 12 years, he recruited me and I think that he was just very emotional as far as letting go. But he wants to do what was best for us.It was also an emotional meeting for his players. When he came and he gave his speech, it touched me, senior wide receiver Travin Dural said. You could feel the pain in his voice, you could hear it. He almost broke down, but you could tell he loves this program, he loves this school. He loves every one of us. Hes a players coach. If anybody tells you different, I dont know what their experience was with him. I have nothing but great memories with him. Everyone has great memories with him.Orgeron emphasized teamwork when he spoke to the players, bringing out a piece of rope as a symbol that they must all pull in the same direction to finish the season successfully.Dural suggested that Orgerons message was something the team needed to hear.A couple of us might have been looking on to the NFL, Dural said. A couple of us mightve just been worrying about stats, and that kind of hurt us. It showed. A couple guys missed assignments, tried to do too much. But looking forward, I think we have a new outlook on things. I think the programs going to move forward. It wasnt a day for positivity around LSUs football facility, but center Ethan Pocic said the Tigers can gain some level of confidence from Orgerons prior experience in this kind of situation. USC was 3-2 and going nowhere after a 62-41 loss to Arizona State when Orgeron took over for Kiffin in September 2013, only to lead the team to a 9-4 record and top-20 final ranking.Coach Os a fiery guy and now that this all happened, being sad and stuff like that, thats not going to help us, said Pocic, whose team hosts Missouri on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network). We just want to go play ball on Saturday.Sunday was not about Orgeron, however. LSU will officially introduce its interim coach at a luncheon on Monday. The sting of Miles departure was still too fresh Sunday for the focus to be on anyone but the longtime coach. He has been one of the sports most popular, quirky figures for more than a decade, and the players unanimously agreed they will miss Miles presence greatly.Hes a different guy, he has a different sense of humor, he has a different way of going about doing things. ... He did a lot of great things and he brought out the best in all of us, Dural said. He was a players coach. He taught me a lot of things and I experienced a lot of things with him, and Im going to miss him. Everybodys going to miss him -- the whole program, the whole state of Louisiana, all LSU fans -- were going to miss him. Bob Dandridge Jersey . Team physician Dr. Steve Traina performed the surgery Friday. Robinson was injured in a spill underneath the Nuggets basket during the first quarter of Wednesday nights loss to the Charlotte Bobcats. Jordan McRae Jersey . JOHNS, N. https://www.cheapwizardsonline.com/1569k-chris-chiozza-jersey-wizards.html .C. -- Al Jefferson joked that he feels he can score from anywhere on the court. Ish Smith Jersey . Perez, 35, posted a 1-2 record with a 3.69 earned-run average in 19 relief appearances last season. His season ended Aug. 9 due to a torn ligament in his left elbow. Perez joins infielder Andy LaRoche and catcher Mike Nickeas with minor-league agreements for 2014 that include invitations to attend spring training. Richard Hamilton Jersey . -- Running backs Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings were back at practice for the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday despite being hampered by hamstring injuries. PITTSBURGH -- Down to his final strike and his team trailing by a run with two outs in the ninth, St. Louis pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter told himself to just find a pitch he could handle. When the fastball from closer Tony Watson ended up right down the middle and not up and away as Watson hoped, Carpenter pounced. His solo homer -- a major league record 15th by a St. Louis pinch-hitter this season -- tied it and sent a jolt through the Cardinals. A home run each from Randal Grichuk and Jhonny Peralta followed, and St. Louis rallied for a stunning 9-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.Weve got a team that I think the best way to describe it is a dangerous team, Carpenter said. Weve got a team that I dont think anybody wants to match up with, especially in a postseason scenario. Its a fun team to play on. We never quit, and tonight was a good example of it.St. Louis blew an early five-run lead and the Pirates were a pitch away from ending a seven-game losing streak when Watsons 0-2 fastball turned into Carpenters 18th home run. An All-Star two years ago as a setup man who moved into the closer role when Mark Melancon was traded to Washington at the deadline, Watson gave up as many homers in the ninth as he did during the entire 2015 season. Were not playing good ball and to go out there and (have) guys fight back and be a strike away and serve up four more runs, its tough to swallow, Watson (2-4) said after his third blown save since replacing Melancon.Yadier Molina went 4 for 5, including a first-inning grand slam for St. Louis. Mike Mayers (1-1) tossed a scoreless eighth for the win, and Seung-Hwan Oh worked around a solo homer to Jung Ho Kang in the ninth for his 16th save. The Cardinals finished with five home runs in all, including Matt Adams 436-foot drive over the seats in right field that plopped into the Allegheny River on the bounce. The comeback allowed St. Louis to remain a game in front of the New York Mets for the second wild card in the National League.Im speechless, St. Louis manager Mike Matheny said. Just, I love how this team competes, right down to the last out. Having a guy like (Carpenter), who hadnt felt quite right, to be able to come into that situation, and then riight after that .dddddddddddd. Im at a loss.Jung Ho Kang had two homers for Pittsburgh and Jordy Mercer hit a two-run double in the fifth as the Pirates took advantage of some sloppy defense by the Cardinals to overcome an early five-run deficit. Watsons implosion, however, sent Pittsburgh to its eighth straight defeat. The Pirates came in reeling during their longest skid in two years, one that dropped them to the fringe of playoff contention. Opponents have outscored them 47-22 during the slide, including a 12-6 setback on Monday night in which the Cardinals simply overpowered Pittsburghs struggling pitching staff. It looked like more of the same early on Tuesday. The Cardinals loaded the bases against Ryan Vogelsong and Molina cleared them with his first grand slam since 2012, the 25th straight game the Cardinals have homered, a club record.MARTINEZ FINALLY ARRIVESSt. Louis rookie outfielder Jose Martinez made his long-awaited major league debut when he entered as a pinch-hitter in the seventh. The 28-year-old son of former major leaguer Carlos Cafe Martinez grounded out to third in his first plate appearance after more than a decade in the minors. It was good to see him get that chance, Matheny said. This is a good day for him. Long time coming.TRAINING ROOMCardinals: RF Stephen Piscotty was initially held out of the lineup to give his aching left wrist a breather. Piscotty took a pitch off the wrist on Monday. Postgame X-rays were negative and Piscotty doubled as a pinch-hitter in the eighth.Pirates: Pittsburgh held C Francisco Cervelli out of the lineup a day after he experienced discomfort in his left hand trying to block a pitch.UP NEXTCardinals: Mike Leake returns to the rotation after a stay on the disabled list while battling a case of the shingles. Leake is 9-5 with a 3.28 ERA in his career against Pittsburgh but is 1-2 with a 5.71 ERA this season.Pirates: Rookie Jameson Taillon will face the Cardinals for the first time in the series finale.
